Southern Cross Football Centre (SCFC)

The Southern Cross Football Centre is a community initiative of Southern Cross University, promoting education and participation through sport.

Our vision is for a football hub that promotes education, participation and supports delivery of the many benefits of the game to the local community.

The Southern Cross Football Centre is a high quality regional football facility which boasts:

  • 3 pitches including an all-weather full size synthetic pitch
  • No wash-outs
  • 4 central change rooms
  • High quality lighting
  • Air-conditioned class room and administration area
  • Covered grandstand seating
  • Extensive parking
  • BBQ and canteen facilities (on request)

The Southern Cross Football Centre also benefits from the facilities on offer at the nearby Southern Cross University Lismore campus.

All Weather Football

The center piece of the Southern Cross Football Centre is the synthetic grass pitch. The synthetic area covers 116.6m x 78.9m to inside edge of spoon drain. The full-sized pitch is marked to FIFA international pitch standard (105m x 68m playing field).

The synthetic surfacing system is called LigaTurf Premier R-RS Re-Creation and consists of a synthetic grass surface which is in-filled with sand & rubber granule for stability, performance and durability.

The pitch is fully fenced, has match lighting to 200 lux and includes an innovative retractable netting system installed by Leading Edge Netting which enables the full field to be reconfigured into a range of self-contained netting zones to incorporate 5-a-side, 6-a-side and 8-a-aside match pitches.

These features combined with excellent drainage and site preparation ensure a perfect surface in all weather conditions.

Footwear and Equipment

As a synthetic Football Pitch no equipment can be used that can potentially damage the surface.

This means that flexi poles, post anchors etc., using spikes that are usually used on grass surfaces, are not suitable for use on the synthetic surface and are strictly prohibited.

However, a range of specialist equipment is available for use on request.

In terms of footwear the use of normal football boots is encouraged however metal studded boots are also strictly prohibited.

In order to keep costs as low as possible our competition is registered with the NSW Governments’ Sporting Injuries Insurance Scheme. Whilst injuries may be are rare, it is recommended that before competing each player consider their individual insurance needs and to take out their own personal health insurance if they believe additional cover is required.

For more information on what is covered by the NSW Government Sporting Injuries Insurance Scheme please go to Sporting Injuries Insurance Information Sheet

The Scheme covers serious injuries (where permanent loss of use is suffered) and death that can unfortunately occur during an authorised sporting activity. Injuries such as twisted ankles, broken hands etc. are not covered. Again, it is recommended that each player take out their own personal health insurance, just in case.
